Oh three down and three to go. Nearly everything is done. Today I had a meeting where we decided things for next semester and I want to have it done (especially those lesson plans) before going into the first class. I had half of it done this semester, but after midterms, all of that lead time disappeared and I scrambled for almost two months to make materials for things I’d never taught before with very, very little viable source material to build from, a new book no one knew much about, and some shit politics that made the whole thing massively more irritating than any job I’ve held in Korea.

(That’s right, my current job has the power to suck harder than my worst hagwon and my worst afterschool program. The key difference being that in those jobs I was more autonomous and the boss or coteacher was worthless. Now, I work in a “team” environment and have to answer for a lot of what I do—those things are fine, in fact that’s what I love about my job. Every team is gonna have worthless players, I get that, but I don’t have to be okay with it by any measure. Some of this path is listening to Meow and not letting any of the yahoos get to me, like that QUIZ 3 nonsense.)

Meow’s silkworms are huge. The monks who gifted them to her said the silkworms were huge. No one can be certain why Meow’s silkworms have grown so much (the ones the monks have are still pretty small). Meow says she has a gift for taking care of things and making them grow, “Plants, money, happiness, silkworms, husband.” I agree.

It’s hot out lately and the humidity is way up. I set a fresh bottle of water on top of the extra credit assingments I still need to grade. Of course they got all wet and soggy. This is my drying system (above).

Daily Report

I didn’t sleep last night. I struggled to write or create a script that would grab an .mp3 from a folder, open it, insert markers in pre-determined places, split the audio file into eleven segments based on those
