Day 466

X

I woke up around 02.00 and didn’t ever get back to sleep. Instead I ate the rest of my pasta. I tried to catch up on what I missed in the last two days. I tried to rest because Friday was going to be another social day. MM was coming to stay the night. Dinner and drinking were loosely planned. I had had a day to unwind and spent it sleeping and now it was time to press into action again.

At work I broke down and went to buy a can of Let’s Be. I’ve weened myself off the crack in all forms of instant food. Today though, I was tired by the second class and slipping into deserved brain death. The machine, the closest one between need and sloth, was sold out of Let’s be. So I braved the rest of the day without it.

In the afternoon I nodded off in my chair waiting for the social things to happen. It wasn’t enough, but it was that little piece to tide me until Saturday when I could go back to my #1 hobby of late: more sleep.

We ate chicken with ramyeon noodles and cheese with PP and MM. Then we had stir fried rice with more cheese—PP’s request. Then we were all dying of cheese overdose. BL was wiped out from the baseball game I slept through, LG was sick (again), and GL was deliberately refusing requests to join us. We resigned to drink the wine left behind, then BL called back to say he’d meet us at the original place. Eventually, LG and CB came out as well and three bowls of honey makgeolli were drunk, in modesty.

The Daily Bullet

There was a big building here. It had a bar called Nyx. I was going to spend my nights drinking there. It was going to be my neighborhood watering hole. But I never went because I always forgot about it. Now the whole building is gone. It wasn’t the greatest looking building, but it was at least unique with interesting apartments. Now it will be something ugly with generic granite panels and cheap cement. In another 20 years someone will tear the new one down. It’s a safe bet that there will be no neighborhood watering hole in the new building. Probably a fried chicken delivery place. It’s not enough to already have fifteen of those on this street. Koreans want to be fatter. They need to float better when Kipple rinses the Earth.

Daily Report

I didn’t sleep last night. I struggled to write or create a script that would grab an .mp3 from a folder, open it, insert markers in pre-determined places, split the audio file into eleven segments based on those
