Day 453

Saturday | May 25th, 2013

Saturday morning at 06.00ish I still couldn’t sleep for reasons even I don’t understand. It took layers of ultimate fatigue, a sleep blind, and counting backwards from 100 to pull me under. It just wasn’t enough sleep and Meow was jumping on me around 13.00 anyway wanting to go for a bike ride. My throat was full of rasp from all the ice cream I’ve not been eating or something and the dogs, Naughty mostly, had been barking on and off all morning. I wasn’t getting up.

We talked about stuff instead, money mostly. We are in better shape than I thought and even better than I could have hoped come August. The house will be paid for in a couple of years and we should be working on paying our second hanok in about five or six years. Somehow I’d thought things were worse. Frugality, years of it, and years more to come makes all of this possible. But we have leeway. Getting to Italy for a family reunion in 2014 is very doable. Me or me and Meow getting to the States to see my family is more plausible in the next five years than the never I just assumed it would be. And, if by some chain of circumstances my trusty iMac meets doom, replacing it will not be the crisis I’d envisioned.

I worked on the homework stack in the afternoon. I chugged it bitterly with Star Trek VI: The Undiscovered Country and Star Trek VII: Generations. I might have made more progress if I cared more or was distracted less. It’s enough to be working on something ahead of a deadline that I’m not concerned with my pace yet.

LG brought beers over in the evening and we sat on my stoop for a long while talking, then inside for more talking. When he left, he finally took his laptop away. There are no more dead computers mucking about.

“Not today!” said the Busy Way.

Daily Report

I didn’t sleep last night. I struggled to write or create a script that would grab an .mp3 from a folder, open it, insert markers in pre-determined places, split the audio file into eleven segments based on those

This Old Hanok

When we had the bathroom done, we wanted to design our own window for the part of the wall which straddles the storage space along the side of the house. This way we could have clean airflow through
