Day 450

Life is perhaps too good (or too slow) when one can watch four Star Trek movies almost back-to-back in front of a computer. It’s not like I didn’t do anything on my day off though.

I slept until almost 15.00. I met with MS at the corner of my street to retrieve avocados and a critical loaf of Tillamook Pepper Jack cheese. I did the dishes like I promised Meow I would yesterday. I let the dogs sit in my room for the first time in a long time. I took a shower—a simple day-off thing often neglected (with great consequences).

Oh! And I graded two classes of homework in a six-class collection I’ve been stockpiling for two months now. Star Trek: the Motion Picture, Star Trek II: The Wrath of Kahn, Star Trek III: The Search for Spock, and Star Trek IV: The Voyage Home were just part of an elaborate coping mechanism which allowed me to do the most tedious self-created task imaginable (who do you think created this homework?) without killing myself. Or putting it off, again.

I have to plan better for next semester. Homework must be simple. Or I need to be another kind of teacher and just quit grading it. Or make the grading more of a, “Hey kids, homework is just for you to practice the concepts and grammar we study in class. It’s for you, not me, so I only mark that you do it, not that it’s competent.”

I wonder, could that even work?

I didn’t take any pictures. I resisted the urge to catch up on this blog of mine. I didn’t snack too much. I drank a lot of water and peed a lot. I didn’t fuck around on my computer. I barely glanced at my phone. Okay, like a whore, I checked Facebook a coupla times. And somehow, somehow I got work done.

Now I just need to repeat this amazing process four more times and finish all the ungraded homework (which I also organized by class and double-checked the students’ grades for today). Thankfully, I have six more Star Trek movies to help me through it all.

I didn’t sleep last night. I struggled to write or create a script that would grab an .mp3 from a folder, open it, insert markers in pre-determined places, split the audio file into eleven segments based on those
