Day 257

At some point today I was sitting with my feet up, the doors open, telling the dogs to be quiet (well, telling Naughty to be quiet, Twitchy has become a more conservative barker), and writing (okay, backposting). It was at one of these points that I felt pain in my ankle. This ankle. A pain so throbbing, wretched, yet innocuous that I was more aware of the hardware in my foot than I’ve been since the spring before the last great deluge.

Aches and pains before storms are folklore to many, but having experienced it as reality more times than I want to, I can tell you it is real. The science and reasoning of the actual cause and effect may differ from my own, but this is the explanation I’ve come to which makes the most sense:

Before a big rain comes, there is a sharp rise in the barometric pressure which affects bone density. Since my left foot is missing two shafts of bone material and these shafts have been replaced with stainless steel, the resulting pressure change is felt when the bone and surrounding tissues compact (ever so) slightly and compress against the immutable steel in my leg, causing the pain.

Reading up on Wikipedia, attempting to find at least partial collaboration on this gets me nowhere other than the fascinating pages on atmospheric pressure, barotrauma, and meteoropathy. I’ve no other line of reasoning beside mine and the endless idioms and achy knee jokes. Somewhere is a thread of truth.

I took some time out to do some very important cylon research when I found out/remembered that cylon doesn’t have an ‘e’ at the end of it because Glen A. Larson isn’t retarded (even though his show is a Mormon allegory, it’s still fucking awesome).

Fan art. I love it. Fan art is always more poignant, responsive, and emotional than studio produced art. Consider that the fans of a show or a movie have made a deeper connection to the resulting product, and much more importantly, reinterpret that product in a completely different way. From the cylon cutout doll to the old skool cylon soldier, now out of work because the Battlestar Galactica reboot redrew him as a CGI construct instead of a guy in a suit in Larson’s original shows, fans demonstrate again and again the new directions in which the source material is accosted and regurgitated.

I turned in around 04.00, taking my laptop and mouse with me to bang out some concepts for the Prima Donna Factory. Sort of my own version of fan art. I wasn’t tired, but the rain was really, really gushing and I didn’t want Meow to wake up alone because of the noise.

More Proof Romney Is a Dinosaur

As if the “With Mitt” app wasn’t enough, I came across this ridiculous message when spamming MS’s inbox with With Mitt parodies:

What is this “mail system” you speak of and where can I access this “mail system” to further my own propaganda machine? Surely they mean ’email’? Or can I expect a visit from the USPS Postmaster shortly to fine me for sending pornographic materials across borders?

In comparison, most apps just say, “Your message was sent.” or the ultra-simplistic, “Message sent.” That’s all people really want to know, ‘Did my message go?’ I don’t need confirmation that my mail (my e-mail, for christsakes) has entered a system. Maybe “Card sent” didn’t capture the sentiment or it didn’t create enough jobs.

Daily Report

I didn’t sleep last night. I struggled to write or create a script that would grab an .mp3 from a folder, open it, insert markers in pre-determined places, split the audio file into eleven segments based on those
