Day 1

Tuesday | February 28th, 2012

Today was a game called, ‘Where the Heck is it!??’ I don’t like playing this game. It makes me feel old. And stupid. The movers forced me to play this game by dropping everything nowhere it was supposed to go. They got the bed in the right room, and the couch, the desks, and that’s about it. Everything I could want or might need to say get looking pretty for my first day of work is nowhere.

The refrigerator and washing machine came today. The refrigerator is black. It is the one I wanted. The one I was willing to fork over my own secret stash of itty-bitty cash to make up the difference for. It makes me happy just looking at it. Like, “I have a black fucking refrigerator, what have you got?” Most people will say a bigger one. But, I’ll bet their refrigerator is fugly or has some goofy flowers on it. Or worse, it could be so big that most of what is in their refrigerator when I go to their houses looking for booze and snacks all I find are moldy leftovers. Mine is skinny. It’s black. The freezer is on the bottom sort of like the refrigerator my grandparents had. Maybe that’s why I’m happy when I look at it.

The QOOKman came as well. The first QOOKman who called kept repeating he couldn’t find our address. Turns out, he was in Daegu. Some phone yelling later, a local QOOKman came over. It took him an hour to set up our FTTH line and wire us up. As Meow says he said, “In Seoul everything is already there and done, in the country it all has to be done from scratch.” He dropped the router in the bedroom, then rewired the landline in the flat to deliver a 100Mbit feed to the 3rd room where I decided to land all my gear. It’s an even wilder set up than we had in Seoul, but it works.

Twitchy and Naughty didn’t like being out on the veranda. Twitchy flipped her gourd and attacked Naughty. He seemed fine until we went for a walk and got down by the river and he started bleeding from his head. This led us to wander around the neighborhood until we found a vet. Twitchy couldn’t handle that either and barked constantly and I had to take her outside. Naughty’s eye swelled up all bloody red and he got to eat funky drugs.

Daily Report

I didn’t sleep last night. I struggled to write or create a script that would grab an .mp3 from a folder, open it, insert markers in pre-determined places, split the audio file into eleven segments based on those
