Photography

All of the photographs presented here were shot with an iPhone 4 using Michael Hardaker’s 6×7 app version 1.02 until April 29, then version 2.12 (see note about the change over).

I do not use filters or tweak apps on these photographs, except for the Daily Bullet feature. The post thumbnails and post header images are cropped for the most attractive fit. In most cases the header and thumbnail photographs are shot on the same day as their post, but there are some instances where I felt another photograph was better or needed a replacement image.

Writing

I’ve been keeping a blog in one form or another since I arrived in Korea almost 10 years ago. My first blog, Supercklin, was very personal and therapeutic from 2002-2008. From 2010-2011, I hardly wrote or took photographs, but did manage to kept a few infrequent blogs for either writing or photography.

A lot of things have changed since moving to Gyeongju and I wanted to have place for daily content once again. When starting (Life) Without Seoul, I did maintain two other blogs under my pseudonym, J. Blake Coco.

In the past, there has been a tendency with work done under my pseudonym to push against my professional career out of the frustration of not placing a higher value on creative talents and focusing almost exclusively on money goals. With the transition to Gyeongju, time is not so precious and I believe I can feed both of these things in me. My hope for this blog is to keep it more active and write about more of myself while saving the more detached art endeavors for my alter ego.

Design

Usually, I design and code my own websites and blogs, but (Life) Without Seoul is a rare exception (as was Supercklin). (Life) Without Seoul uses “The Columnist”, a template that suited both my writing and photographic needs while still being easy to figure out and hack on the back end. The Columnist theme was designed for WordPress by Ben Martineau.
